Relkin and Bazil, down on their luck when they come to the white city of Marneri, are obliged to join the Legions of the Argonath and find themselves fighting against the Masters of Padmasa, whose agent Thrembode the New has kidnapped the young Queen, Besita.
There they still have to contend with the evil Wizard of the Black Mountain, but in the end, Evander triumphs and he and Serena return to Monjon with a new, even more powerful Thymnal. I enjoyed it, it went along at a hood speed and I found myself liking Bazil and his dragon boy Relkin.
Waakzaam unleashes two plagues on the Argonath, a pestilence spread by rats and then a fever of even more deadly nature. The dragons form the equivalent of tanks, a heavy stiffening force for eliminating the enemy’s own shock troops.

Unquestionably one of my favorite fantasy series that deals with dragons. A third Freemartin named Zed Dek is mentioned, but not identified. Unfortunately in an early trial combat Bazil’s tail is ruined. In the ruins of Orthond, crushed beneath the heel of the Dominator, Waakzaam the Great, Evander and Serena meet Perspax, a member of the former Eleem nobility. The th Marneri Dragons are part of an expeditionary force sent down the river Oon to the ancient land of Ourdh, where the ruler faces an insurgency designed by the Masters of Padmasa.
I don’t feel that the shifting pov were executed well. Bazil Broketail Bazil, still with his tail in one piece, arrives in the white city of Marneri with Relkin. Crullos, a type of brasshide light purple in color also exist, but are rare, only one, named Vaunce, is mentioned.
